Upholstering with multiple fabrics

Can an item be upholstered using more than one fabric? Of course it can, and it can produce very interesting results indeed. Also the very good news is that using more than one fabric for the same upholstery project can prove very cost effective, as it allows to use left over fabric from other upholstery projects.

We once re-upholstered the sofa and chairs of a charity shop cafe in Edinburgh using at least 6 different kinds of fabric. It is a pity I can no longer find pictures, as it was a great showcase as to what an experience upholsterer can do.

So if you are after very original upholstery, definitely you should consider using multiple fabrics!! Having said that, most people will prefer more traditional forms of upholstery 🙂
